A identidade cultural regional da cidade da Póvoa de Varzim: o Cine-Teatro Garrett e a promoção das tradições poveiras

| dc.description.abstract | presente tese remete para a relação entre cultura, identidade e turismo cultural, com foco especial no papel do turismo cultural como agente de desenvolvimento urbano e preservação da identidade. Assim, a nível metodológico, a pesquisa está dividida em duas grandes partes, sendo a primeira referente a uma abordagem teórica sobre os conceitos de cultura, identidade e turismo cultural, e a segunda relativa a um estudo de caso centrado na cidade portuguesa da Póvoa de Varzim. Na primeira parte, a dissertação apresenta uma reflexão crítica sobre os conceitos de cultura, abordando as diferentes interpretações sociológicas e antropológicas. De seguida, aprofunda-se na identidade cultural, explicando, através de um friso cronológico, como é construída ao longo do tempo com base nos costumes, nas memórias e tradições locais, e como difere entre países e continentes. Deste modo, o turismo cultural é discutido como um fenómeno que, enquanto valoriza e promove a cultura local, também pode representar riscos à sua integridade, exigindo equilíbrio entre promoção e preservação. Além disso, é apresentada uma análise sobre a importância do turismo no desenvolvimento das cidades e os desafios da articulação entre identidade e turismo. Na segunda parte, o foco recai sobre a cidade da Póvoa de Varzim, observando a sua identidade cultural, desde as raízes piscatórias e rurais até à sua modernização. Destacam-se momentos históricos importantes, como o papel dos pescadores no século XIX, os “Heróis do Mar” no início do século XX, e a devoção religiosa como traço marcante da cultura local. A dissertação evidencia ainda o esforço contemporâneo de revitalização e preservação da identidade poveira no século XXI. Por fim, é dado um destaque especial ao Cine-Teatro Garrett, importante espaço cultural da cidade, analisado como agente de promoção das tradições locais, onde foi realizado o estágio, no âmbito do curso de Gestão de Turismo, sendo descritas as funções desempenhadas, as estatísticas de diversos eventos e feita uma análise SWOT (forças, fraquezas, oportunidades e ameaças) da instituição. O objetivo central desta dissertação consiste em analisar a influência dos eventos culturais na identidade cultural regional da cidade da Póvoa de Varzim. Os objetivos específicos passam por apontar possíveis lacunas na comunicação e na colaboração com os parceiros na promoção e dinamização de eventos; identificar os eventos culturais que mais se destacam na cidade; selecionar estratégias que possam ser implementadas para fortalecer a identidade regional; e examinar as parcerias entre instituições locais que promovem a divulgação de costumes. A oportunidade de estágio no Cine-Teatro Garrett possibilitou uma análise mais aprofundada desta instituição enquanto agente de dinamização cultural. Como limitação, reconhece-se que a quantidade de eventos analisados no Cine-Teatro Garrett que se relacionam diretamente com elementos identitários relevantes para a sociedade poveira é restrita, existindo outros eventos culturais fora desta instituição que desempenham igualmente um papel importante na afirmação da identidade local. Este estudo pretende ser um contributo relevante de análise e reflexão que permita à Câmara Municipal da Póvoa de Varzim planear, desenvolver e inovar nas suas estratégias de promoção, valorização e preservação da identidade poveira, destacando a importância de envolver a comunidade local no processo. | por |
| dc.description.abstract | This master’s thesis refers to the relationship between culture, identity and cultural tourism, with a special focus on the role of cultural tourism as an agent of urban development and identity preservation. Thus, at the methodological level, the research is divided into two major parts, the first referring to a theoretical approach on the concepts of culture, identity and cultural tourism, and the second relating to a case study focused on the Portuguese city of Póvoa de Varzim. In the first part, the dissertation presents a critical reflection on the concepts of culture, addressing the different sociological and anthropological interpretations. It then delves into cultural identity, explaining, through a chronological frieze, how it is built over time based on local customs, memories and traditions, and how it differs between countries and continents. In this way, cultural tourism is discussed as a phenomenon that, while valuing and promoting local culture, can also pose risks to its integrity, requiring a balance between promotion and preservation. In addition, an analysis of the importance of tourism in the development of cities and the challenges of the articulation between identity and tourism is presented. In the second part, the focus falls on the city of Póvoa de Varzim, observing its cultural identity, from its fishing and rural roots to its modernization. Important historical moments stand out, such as the role of fishermen in the nineteenth century, the "Heroes of the Sea" at the beginning of the twentieth century, and religious devotion as a striking feature of the local culture. The dissertation also highlights the contemporary effort to revitalize and preserve the identity of Póvoa de Varzim in the twenty-first century. Finally, special emphasis is given to the Cine-Teatro Garrett, an important cultural space in the city, analyzed as an agent for the promotion of local traditions, where the internship was carried out, within the scope of the Tourism Management course, describing the functions performed, the statistics of various events and making a SWOT analysis (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) of the institution. The main objective of this dissertation is to analyze the influence of cultural events on the regional cultural identity of the city of Póvoa de Varzim. The specific objectives are to point out possible gaps in communication and collaboration with partners in the promotion and dynamization of events; identify the cultural events that stand out the most in the city; select strategies that can be implemented to strengthen regional identity; and to examine partnerships between local institutions that promote the dissemination of customs. The internship opportunity at Cine-Teatro Garrett enabled a more in-depth analysis of this institution as an agent of cultural dynamism. As a limitation, it is recognized that the number of events analyzed in Cine-Teatro Garrett that are directly related to identity elements relevant to the society of Póvoa de Varzim is restricted, and there are other cultural events outside this institution that also play an important role in the affirmation of local identity. This study aims to be a relevant contribution of analysis and reflection that allows the Municipality of Póvoa de Varzim to plan, develop and innovate in its strategies for promoting, valuing and preserving the identity of Póvoa de Varzim, highlighting the importance of involving the local community in the process. | por |
