Abstract(s)
This publication is part of the SeFTI Project - Sowing a Future for All Ages, developed by APRe! - Association of Retirees and Pensioners - with the support of AGE Platform Europe, and co-financed by the EU’s CERV Programme (Citizenship, Equality, Rights and Values). Age Platform Europe is the largest European network of non-profit organisations of and for older people, of which APRe! is a full member. The aim of this project was to disseminate the AGE Platform Europe (AGE) Manifesto (Annex 1), which was the starting point for the debate on priority issues for APRe! and AGE’s advocacy work, such as fighting ageism, spreading the proposal for an Age Equality Strategy for the EU, and promoting the rights of older adults. Thus, the project have two main target groups: older adults and retired people living in Portugal and Portuguese political actors, namely MEPs elected by Portugal or their representatives. The project ran from 1 August 2024 to 31 December 2024 and was organised into four Work Packages: 1) Dissemination and debate sessions on the Manifesto and its contents; 2) Meetings with Portuguese MEPs or their representatives; 3) Visit to the European Parliament and AGE Platform Europe; 4) Publication on the manifesto’s themes focusing on the Portuguese context. With this project, APRe! aims to foster discussion and raise critical awareness about the challenges faced by older adults in Portugal, as well as current situations of violation of their fundamental rights. We hope this project will contribute to the development of public policies that enhance the lives of all, in line with the vision of a Europe for all ages— promoting participation, autonomy, and well-being for everyone.
