Abstract(s)
O cultivo de microalgas é uma prática que está em desenvolvimento, nos dias de hoje,
tendo varias aplicações como a indústria alimentar, farmacêutica, a produção de bio
combustíveis, entre muitas outras finalidades.
Neste projeto pretende-se desenvolver um sistema aberto de cultivo de microalgas em
lagoa arejada, tipo raceway pond, compreendendo os diversos sistemas que o
constituem. A capacidade deste sistema é de 3,8 m3, 25 m2 e 0,15 m para a profundidade
da cultura. As espécies de microalgas requisitadas são a Spirulina platensis e a Chlorella
vulgaris.
Com estas restrições, são elaborados métodos que permitam o controlo de parâmetros
essenciais ao crescimento das microalgas, tais como, a temperatura da cultura, o pH, a
luminosidade, o escoamento, a concentração de CO2, entre outros.
Inicialmente, é efetuada uma pesquisa e análise do estado de arte, estudando as
técnicas e tecnologias já utilizadas na cultura de microalgas, bem como as tipologias de
raceway’s existentes, percebendo assim a melhor orientação a dar ao projeto.
São abordados os aspetos técnicos e económicos do projeto, construção e
funcionamento de um raceway pond.
O trabalho desenvolvido permite verificar que a produção de microalgas em lagoas
arejadas, tipo raceway pond, atualmente é um processo corrente na produção comercial
de microalgas. Apesar de não ser possível controlar, da forma mais eficaz, os parâmetros
essenciais ao crescimento das microalgas, devido principalmente às condições
ambientais, é um sistema muito utilizado para este tipo de produção porque é muito
económico realizar uma instalação e gerir o processo.
The cultivation of microalgae is a practice that is in development today, with various applications such as food, pharmaceutical, bio fuel production, among many other purposes. This project aims to develop an open system of microalgae cultivation in aerated lagoon type raceway pond, comprising the various systems that constitute it. The capacity of this system is 3.8 m3 and 25 m2 0, 15 m of the culture depth. The species of microalgae that were required are Spirulina platensis and Chlorella vulgaris. With these constraints, methods are designed to enable control of essential parameters to the growth of microalgae such as the culture temperature, pH, light, flow, concentration of CO2, among others. Initially, a research and analysis of the state of art is done by studying the techniques and technologies already used in microalgae culture, as well as existing raceway's typologies, thus realizing the best way to start the project. The technical and economic aspects of the design, construction and operation of a raceway pond are covered. The work shows that the production of microalgae in aerated lagoons, type raceway pond, is now a current process in commercial production of algal biomass. Although it is not possible to control, more effectively the essential parameters to the growth of microalgae, mainly due to environmental conditions, is a system commonly used for this type of production because it is very economical to perform a setup and manage the process.
