Abstract(s)
Companies are facing an increasingly competitive market, where demand for the elimination of wastes in the production process is permanent. Save time and resources means to be more effective and competitive than its competitors, which means also generate greater added value or have a greater certainty of their competitiveness comparatively to other companies capable of producing the same products. On this basis, the focus should be placed in production processes and in their interconnection (internal logistics), trying also to rationalize the raw materials consumption and reduce the amount of work in progress in the manufacture process. This work was based on the need of a traditional Portuguese industry improve your production process, doing a critical analysis of the way the production takes place and identify wastes, suggesting solutions to make production more efficient and the product to become more competitive. To this end, some industrial management tools recently developed were used in order to show their usefulness and effectiveness in identifying and solving some industrial problems related to shop floor waste of resources. Some of the solutions have already been implemented, with very positive results, while others still await their implementation, which is being held in a phased manner, taking into account the costs of their implementation and the operators training need regarding the necessary changes.
