Abstract(s)

By understanding the writing characteristics which give originality to Brahms’ violin written work, the interpretation will become more enlightened, more consistent, sustained, and therefore, with a higher technical and artistic level. The aim of this study is to identify these characteristics, to analyze them and suggest resolutions for the best performance of Brahms’ work. The study was developed based on literature search and analysis, scores analysis and music hearing. The results point to the need of a better understanding of the type of joints used by Brahms, the sound required for his work, harmony eccentricity at some points, his relationship with the most influential violinist of the time, and how this relationship influenced the originality of the violin writings in Brahms’ work.
