As Empresas Familiares são um importante instrumento no tecido empresarial
português e mundial. Existem graças às características empreendedoras e de liderança dos
seus fundadores. É essencialmente na passagem dos fundadores para os sucessores que a
empresa pode vacilar. Esta investigação empírica caracteriza as empresas familiares, o
processo de sucessão, as características dos fundadores e como esses perfis interferem com
a sucessão e a continuidade da empresa. O estudo exploratório apoia-se em dados recolhidos
presencialmente através da análise e observação de cinco empresas familiares portugueses.
Family Business are an important instrument in the Portuguese and European business economy. Its existence is related to the entrepreneurship and leadership of its founders. It is mainly in the transition from the founder to its successors that these companies usually tend to fail. This empirical research defines family business, the process of succession, the characteristics of the founders and how their profiles interfere with the success and continuity of the company. The exploratory study is based on data collected in person through the analysis and observation of five Portuguese family businesses.
