Abstract(s)
sustentabilidade, enriquecendo a literatura no âmbito do lean sustainability.
This dissertation was conducted at Colquímica, a Portuguese company in the chemical sector whose industrial activity is focused on the development, production and commercialisation of industrial adhesives. The aim of the dissertation was to study the impact of lean tools on Colquímica’s sustainability. To this end, the research methodology used was Action Research, as it is characterised by providing answers to problems. In the initial phase, some of the lean tools were studied in order to understand which ones fit in with the company's reality and also to study their economic, environmental and social benefits. After that, the practical component was developed, starting by checking the initial state of the company by calculating some Key Performance Indicators. Next, 5S was applied in the maintenance department and two of the pillars of Total Productive Maintenance (specific improvements and autonomous maintenance) on the production line with the highest downtime for break down resolution throughout 2023, the Small Pillows 1 line. The analysis of breakdowns made it possible to develop individualised actions with the aim of improving the company's performance. With regard to autonomous maintenance, procedures were standardised and a kamishibai card was proposed for future control by maintenance technicians. The 5S have improved the conditions in the maintenance department, cleanliness and organisation have improved and the space available has increased. It is also expected that the waste of lubricants will decrease. Until the end of the internship, it was estimated that TPM had made it possible to reduce 83.6% of the time taken to resolve faults on the Small Pillows 1 line, 1.35% of the carbon dioxide emissions released and obtain economic gains of 21 969 €. It should also be emphasised that this tool has made it possible to improve worker safety by eliminating a source of risk. The improvements occurred over the first four months of 2024. With this study it was possible to demonstrate the impact of lean on sustainability, enriching the literature on lean sustainability.
