Abstract(s)

This study aims, on the one hand, to identify the relationship between shift work and the balance between personal and professional life, seeking to know the motivations of individuals to work under this regime, as well as the positive and negative factors of this regime identified By them. On the other hand, it also seeks to understand the importance of the practices of balance between the personal and professional life that organizations make available to employees and whether these practices are related to the desire to remain working in this work regime. The data were collected in the North of the country in companies related to the provision of services. More specifically the sample is made up of 131 workers, using a questionnaire for the collection of data. The results point to the existence of a relation between shift work and the balance between personal and professional life, and the individuals who work in this regime consider that there is no balance between the two spheres. These results are directly related to the desire to quit shift work, and therefore, suggest that it is necessary for organizations to act in a way that reduces the willingness to abandon shift work and increase employee satisfaction, thus promoting commitment of the workers.
