Abstract(s)
The concept of tie-rods arose in the context of promoting a global interaction of buildings, namely, to establish the referred connections in order to prevent the collapse of the walls to the outside of the façade, in face of seismic activity or settlement of the foundations. In this sense, the present work aims to study the behavior of tie-rods in the out-of-plane behavior of façades under tension. However, due to the heterogeneity of the walls, it was necessary disarticulate the tie-rods mechanism. It was also necessary to study each of the parts that compose it: injected bars into the masonry and anchorage systems. Firstly, it was conducted a preliminary study about injected bars into masonry, which has focused on their design, sensitivity analysis, presentation of a case study and comparison of results. Secondly, it has been made a literature review of the different and more common, anchorage systems, where some relevant aspects have been mentioned, such as the importance, the purpose and the conditions of their application. In the end, these two components were associated and the mechanism of tie-rods has been studied. It was made a study of their use and interest of application. It was also analyzed a methodology for design, when these are inserted in brick and stone masonry. This study has been completed with the conclusions and suggestions for future developments.
