Ao longo da história da música ocidental diversas obras emblemáticas serviram como base e inspiração para vários compositores. O Capricho 24 de Niccolò Paganini insere-se nessa categoria: foi adaptado para diversos instrumentos e tem sido referência para obras escritas para as mais variadas formações, passando pela música de câmara, piano solo e orquestra, violino solo e orquestra, combo de jazz, órgão de tubos e o instrumento que serve como ponto central desta investigação, o saxofone.
Nesta monografia é abordada a história do compositor e o seu emblemático Capricho 24, bem como a importância do mesmo no instrumento de saxofone e respetivo enriquecimento do seu repertório. O foco central deste projeto é perceber de que forma os compositores exploraram o tema do Capricho 24 utilizando os seus métodos composicionais, não perdendo a autenticidade do escrito inicial e adaptando-o às características específicas e virtuosísticas do saxofone.
Com vista a compreender as principais dificuldades e desafios aquando do estudo das obras, foram colocadas várias questões aos compositores das mesmas, que serão aqui transcritas.
Renewing the Myth de Marylin Shrude, Paganini Lost de Jun Nagao, Paganini-Capriccio de Piet Swerts e Concerto Capriccio de Gregorij Markovich Kalinkovich são as obras a estudo.
Throughout the history of western music various emblematic pieces have served as a basis and inspiration to several composers. The 24th Caprice by Niccolò Paganini is included in this category: it has been adapted for several instruments, and has been a reference for works written for the most diverse formations, including chamber music, solo piano and orchestra, solo violin and orchestra, jazz combo, organ and the instrument that serves as the basis for this investigation, the saxophone. This monograph discusses the history of the composer and his emblematic 24th Caprice, as well as its importance in the saxophone instrument and the respective enrichment of its repertoire. The central focus of this project is to understand how the composers explored the theme of the 24th Caprice using their compositional methods, while maintaining the authenticity of the initial writing and adapting it to the specific and virtuosic characteristics of the saxophone. In order to understand the main difficulties and challenges in the study of the works, several questions were asked to the composers, which will be transcribed here.
