Uma vez que Portugal é um dos países considerado com mais Pequenas e Médias
Empresas torna-se importante identificar as dificuldades que estas empresas têm quando
recorrem a financiamento, sendo o financiamento bancário uma das principais formas de
financiamento das empresas, bem como analisar os riscos a que as empresas incorrem
quando utilizam este tipo de financiamento. Este tema em sido objeto de vários estudos.
Deste modo, a presente dissertação tem como objetivo melhorar o conhecimento
já existente sobre as práticas financeiras das PME em Portugal, bem como analisar as
suas preferências quanto ao financiamento e avaliar os riscos que as PME estão sujeitas
quando recorrem ao crédito bancário.
A presente dissertação tem como principal contributo identificar quais as variáveis
que melhor explicam o recurso das PME ao financiamento bancário no pressuposto que
quanto maior o financiamento menor o risco de crédito associado.
A metodologia utilizada na dissertação será qualitativa exploratória na revisão da
bibliografia e metodologia quantitativa na componente prática constituída por uma
amostra relevante de PME portuguesas do setor do calçado numa observação temporal de
quatro anos (2015 a 2018), de modo a analisar qual a variável que mais influência no risco
de crédito.
O presente estudo revela que as pequenas e médias empresas tendem a utilizar
mais a dívidas de curto prazo do que as dívidas de médio longo prazo. Foi também
possível observar que as diferentes características das empresas influenciam os diferentes
padrões de endividamento.
Os resultados mostram a influência dos vários fatores sobre o recurso ao crédito
bancário.
Since Portugal is one of the countries considered to have the most Small and Medium Enterprises, it is important to identify the difficulties that these companies have when they resort to financing, bank financing being one of the main forms of financing for companies, as well as analyzing the risks to that companies incur when using this type of financing. This topic has been the subject of several studies. Thus, this dissertation aims to improve the existing knowledge about the financial practices of SMEs in Portugal, as well as to analyze their preferences regarding financing and to assess the risks that SMEs are subject to when they resort to bank credit. The methodology used in the dissertation will be qualitative exploratory in the review of the bibliography and quantitative methodology in the practical component consisting of a relevant sample of Portuguese SMEs in the footwear sector in a four-year temporal observation (2015 to 2018), in order to analyze which variable that most influences credit risk. The present study reveals that small and medium-sized companies tend to use short-term debt more than medium-long-term debt. It was also possible to observe that the different characteristics of the companies influence the different indebtedness patterns. The results show the influence of various factors on the use of bank credit.
