DRIVE – Design Related Investigation Conference is a conference organised by the Master’s in Design at the Faculty of Media Arts and Design, Technical University of Porto, dedicated to design research and to the sharing of knowledge among students, researchers, academics and professionals. In its 8th edition, DRIVE establishes itself as a space for dialogue between different ways of thinking and making design, with a particular focus on research developed within Master’s programmes in Design. In 2026, the theme “Process Matters: Design Research Beyond the Linear” invites reflection on process as a fundamental space for design research. To research in, for and through design means recognising that knowledge is rarely constructed in a straight line. It develops through approximations, advances and setbacks, experimentation and discovery. In this sense, DRIVE seeks to make visible not only the outcome, but also the questions, hypotheses, trials and different ways of validating or reformulating an idea. The DRIVE programme brings together national and international keynote speakers, project presentations and the 2nd Forum for Master’s Students in Design. The Forum presents completed and ongoing research projects developed within second-cycle Design programmes, demonstrating a growing level of critical, scientific and project maturity through the presentation of scientific posters. Rather than seeking definitive answers, DRIVE aims to create a context for discussion around design processes that are necessarily imperfect, yet rigorous and deeply human.
