Este trabalho insere-se no âmbito da composição musical, nomeadamente na composição para banda de música, tendo como recurso a música popular tradicional portuguesa. Numa primeira fase deste trabalho, são apresentados os elementos de investigação sobre música popular: sua definição e sua utilização como recurso para a produção de música erudita. Numa segunda fase, partindo daqueles elementos e estabelecem-se os princípios orientadores e os métodos composicionais convenientes para a criação de novas composições. Como corolário deste trabalho, são apresentadas duas novas composições, pretendendo-se, com elas, contribuir no esforço de diversificação e de enriquecimento do repertório de música portuguesa para banda.
The present essay was developed within the scope of musical composition, specially in regards to the compositions for wind bands, using the traditional Portuguese music as a resource. This essay begins by presenting the elements of the investigation on popular music: its definition and how it has been used as a resource for the production of classical music. Then, in a further approach, these elements are used to establish the guiding principles and the most convenient compositional methods in order to create new compositions. As a corollary of this work, two new compositions are presented, in an effort to contribute to the diversification and enrichment of the repertoire of Portuguese music for wind bands.
