Abstract(s)
A presente dissertação analisa o contributo da digitalização e da melhoria contínua para a
sustentabilidade industrial, com aplicação em duas áreas distintas: a gestão da manutenção e
o processo de fosfatação. O principal objetivo deste trabalho consiste em avaliar de que forma
a integração de ferramentas digitais e práticas Lean pode promover simultaneamente ganhos
de eficiência operacional e de sustentabilidade nas operações industriais.
Este estudo procura responder à questão central de como a melhoria contínua pode contribuir
para o desenvolvimento sustentável da indústria.
Para responder a esta questão, foi adotada a metodologia Action-Research, caracterizada pela
intervenção direta no contexto organizacional, permitindo implementar e avaliar mudanças
reais nos processos estudados.
A integração de um módulo de manutenção num sistema ERP permitiu digitalizar tarefas
anteriormente realizadas em papel, eliminando o consumo anual de impressos drasticamente
e melhorando a rastreabilidade das intervenções. A centralização da informação possibilitou
maior eficiência no planeamento e uma gestão mais fiável dos ativos, refletindo-se ainda num
aumento da satisfação geral dos operadores, resultado da simplificação do registo das
atividades de manutenção autónoma e da redução do tempo despendido nas tarefas
administrativas.
Na vertente produtiva, a implementação de medidas de melhoria na linha de fosfatação
resultou numa redução de 39 % no consumo de energia elétrica, numa diminuição de 56 % nas
emissões de CO₂ e numa redução de 17 % no consumo de água. Estas melhorias foram
acompanhadas por ganhos na organização e segurança do posto de trabalho, impulsionados
pela aplicação do 5S.
Os resultados obtidos traduzem progressos nos três pilares da sustentabilidade — económico,
ambiental e social — e contribuem para os ODS 8 (Trabalho Digno e Crescimento Económico),
ODS 9 (Indústria, Inovação e Infraestruturas) e ODS 12 (Produção e Consumo Sustentáveis),
demonstrando que a integração entre Lean e digitalização é uma via eficaz para uma indústria
mais eficiente e sustentável.
This dissertation analyses the contribution of digitalisation and continuous improvement to industrial sustainability, with application in two distinct areas: maintenance management and the phosphating process. The main objective of this work is to assess how the integration of digital tools and Lean practices can simultaneously promote gains in operational efficiency and sustainability in industrial operations. This study seeks to answer the central question of how continuous improvement can contribute to the sustainable development of industry. To address this question, the Action-Research methodology was adopted, characterised by direct intervention in the organisational context, allowing for the implementation and evaluation of real changes in the processes under study. The integration of a maintenance module into an ERP system enabled the digitalisation of tasks previously carried out on paper, drastically eliminating the annual consumption of printed forms and improving the traceability of interventions. The centralisation of information allowed for greater efficiency in planning and more reliable asset management, which was also reflected in an increase in overall operator satisfaction, resulting from the simplification of autonomous maintenance activity recording and the reduction of time spent on administrative tasks. On the production side, the implementation of improvement measures in the phosphating line led to a 39% reduction in electricity consumption, a 56% decrease in CO₂ emissions, and a 17% reduction in water consumption. These improvements were accompanied by gains in workplace organisation and safety, driven by the application of the 5S methodology. The results achieved demonstrate progress across the three pillars of sustainability — economic, environmental, and social — and contribute to SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), showing that the integration of Lean and digitalisation is an effective path towards a more efficient and sustainable industry.
