The purpose of this dissertation is to calculate several geomechanical parameters of the granitic rock material ― friction angle and shear strength ― by applying tilt tests to samples resulting from sampling collected from the Joane’s quarry face (Famalicão) and the S. Cristóvão rock slope (Cinfães). The first part of this work includes a theoretical framework of the subject as well as the exposition of the proposed scientific and experimental method for the execution of the tests and the history of the key studies that preceded that method. Then there is a chapter regarding the construction of one of the machines used in these tests, in this case, a wooden prototype and the presentation of the second professional machine. In the following chapter, the case study is described, with an initial framing of the characteristics of the samples and their collection sites, followed by complementary tests ― compressive strength and JRC determination. The following is a description of the cutting of the samples, the dimensions to be obtained and the characteristics of the cutting machine, as well as the description of the tests to be performed, the combinations used and the test sequence. Also, in this chapter, there is the treatment and analysis of the results obtained, with statistical analysis and partial conclusions for each calculated parameter. Finally, there are recommended the final considerations of the obtained parameters, as well as the evaluation of the reliability of the tests and the experimental method.
