Interessa-nos para este artigo perscrutar as representaçÔes da vida social em narrativas do escritor angolano Uanhenga Xitu, mormente no que diz respeito Ă personagem feminina e ao papel da mulher nas sociedades tradicionais angolanas. Nas narrativas cujas açÔes se passam no interior de Angola, as representaçÔes sociais da mulher revelam um modus vivendi diferenciado daquele experimentado por mulheres que migram para a capital, Luanda, espaço em que a noção de vida comunitĂĄria, tĂŁo significativa nas sociedades tradicionais, perde seu significado. Os trabalhos lĂĄ executados, por exemplo, serĂŁo em favor do colono, como os dos empregados domĂ©sticos, e nĂŁo para a coletividade. JĂĄ nos espaços interiores, mais distantes da mĂŁo pesada do colonizador, as representaçÔes da vida social dos angolanos sĂŁo mais expressivas e essa diferenciação revela que a migração do campo para a cidade, no caso de um paĂs dominado pela colonização, metaforiza o abandono de um tipo de (con)vivĂȘncia social em favor de outro. Como a polĂtica colonial portuguesa foi assimilacionista, essa migração serĂĄ sinĂŽnimo de busca de adesĂŁo ao modus vivendi do outro, muitas vezes para sofrer menos os efeitos da dominação. Para essa discussĂŁo, nĂŁo Ă© por livre escolha que se tratarĂĄ das personagens femininas na obra de Xitu, posto que as mulheres em seus textos ganham vez e voz para a expressĂŁo do proprium angolano, como se o autor as quisesse homenagear em sinal do reconhecimento de sua importĂąncia na construção e preservação da memĂłria, que Ă© capaz de criar laços identitĂĄrios entre as milenares geraçÔes passadas e as futuras, como esboçaremos (Esta reflexĂŁo teve origem no estudo desenvolvido no doutoramento, intitulado Entre dois contares: o espaço da tradição na escrita de Uanhenga Xitu, defendida em 1996 na FFLCH-USP, e orientada pela Dra. Maria Aparecida Santilli, falecida em março de 2008).
In this article, we are interested in the representations of social life in the narratives of the Angolan writer Uanhenga Xitu, mainly in his concern with the feminine character and the feminine role in the traditional Angolan societies. In these narratives, which take place in Angola, the social representations of the woman reveal a âmodus vivendiâ that is different from those women who migrate to the capital, Luanda, a place where the notion of a life in community, so meaningful in the traditional societies, has lost its meaning. There, the work is done to favor the colonist and not the whole community. On the other hand, in the spaces of the countryside, which are far from the colonizerâs stern hand, the representations of the Angolan social life are more expressive and this difference reveals that the migration from the country-side to the capital, in the case of a country driven by colonization, represents, as in a metaphor, the abandonment of a kind of social living in the terms of the another. Because Portugalâs colonization process was assimilationist, this migration will mean an adherence to the âmodus vivendiâ of the other, in many ways an effort to do not suffer so much the impacts of the domination. It is no wonder that Xituâs feminine characters were chosen in this discussion; in his texts, these women are given voice to express the Angolan âpropriumâ, as if the writer wanted to recognize and acknowledge their contribution in the construction and preservation of the memory, which is able to create identity links, among as many generations, both from the past and the future, as it will be shown here (The reflections presented in this paper are the result of my doctorate studies, called âEntre dois contares: o espaço da tradição na escrita de Uanhenga Xituâ, presented at FFLCH-USP in 1996 and under the supervision of Dra. Maria Aparecida Santilli, who died in March 2008).
