Abstract(s)
O objetivo deste estudo é analisar comparativamente a
Tourism is one of the most important economic sectors in the world and with a lot of growth potential. Encouraging tourism is an efficient way to promote economic growth. This study aims to comparatively analyse the attractiveness of Portuguese-speaking countries in the area of tourism and the contribution of this sector to economic growth. Based on the Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Index, prepared by the World Economic Forum, the factors of competitiveness of five Portuguese-speaking countries – Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Mozambique and Portugal - are comparatively analysed and, following the methodology of Ivanov and Webster (2007), the contribution of tourism to economic growth is quantified. Portugal is more competitive due to the environment conducive to investment, tourism policy and enabling conditions, and infrastructure; and Brazil due to natural and cultural resources. On average, in the period 2010-2018, the contribution of tourism to economic growth was positive in Cape Verde, Mozambique and Portugal. The results obtained contribute to a better understanding of tourism in Lusophone countries and show that the allocation of resources to tourism promotes economic growth.
