Abstract(s)
As carreiras
pesquisas futuras.
Changes in the labour market create opportunities for people to explore their careers, aligning them with their inclinations, profile and interests. Careers are becoming more fluid and dynamic, and people are taking on different projects throughout their professional careers (Anderson et al., 2019; Fonseca, 2023; Hall et al., 2018). The general aim of this study is to explore the process of career change in people with higher education. Once the general objective of the dissertation has been defined, the following specific objectives are outlined: (i) To understand the perception of professionals with higher education about the reasons that lead them to seek a career change; (ii) To characterise the career transition process in people with higher education; (iii) To understand the role of reskiling in the change process. This study adopted a qualitative approach and used the narrative method. In order to achieve the objectives of this study, narrative and therefore unstructured, in-depth interviews were conducted, and narrative analysis was carried out as a data processing method. The seven participants were invited to share their experiences related to their career change experience. The results suggest that people with higher education seek a career change due to precarious working conditions, lack of professional development and personal difficulties that influence this decision. The career transition process is marked by doubts, hesitations and decision-making, and reskilling plays a key role since, as well as enabling the acquisition of new skills and building a network of contacts, the market demands academic certification of these professionals for the new area. Finally, some limitations of the study are identified and suggestions made for future research.
