economias parceiras, incluindo a União Europeia.
A análise
In 2018, the Trump administration’s implementation of import tariffs marked a protectionist shift in U.S. trade policy, triggering global market uncertainty and significantly impacting partner economies, including the European Union. This dissertation analyzes the European financial market's reaction to tariff announcements and trade threats following Donald Trump's 2024 re-election, identifying "winner" and "loser" sectors. Utilizing an Event Study methodology, the research covers the period from the 2024 U.S. elections through the end of 2025. The analysis focuses on the STOXX Europe 600 sectoral indices, specifically: Automobiles & Parts, Basic Resources, Industrial Goods & Services, and Health Care. Abnormal returns are calculated using the MacKinlay (1997) method, while stock price reactions are examined via the Beaver (1968) model. This study aims to determine whether exposure to tariffs, customs duties, which constitute the formal legal designation of the American measures, caused asymmetric penalties across European sectors and to assess whether the market reacts by anticipation (at the announcement) or only upon effective implementation. The findings are expected to contribute to the understanding of European market efficiency regarding geopolitical risks, providing valuable insights for portfolio management and hedging strategies during periods of trade tension.
