Abstract(s)
The following Project study aims to translate an English language tale to Portuguese of Portugal, which falls under the scope of children’s literature. The name of the tale is The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs!, by Jon Scieszka and Lane Smith. The first part of this project provides a concept for children’s literature, highlighting its very own characteristics, which makes it somewhat different from other types of literature. These characteristics are used according to the author’s perception of the audience for whom (s)he writes, so it changes with the perspective of the image (s)he has about the child. Likewise, the role of the translator in this field is also highlighted, as I refer to the aspects that must be taken into consideration during the translation. The second part of this project enhances the author’s background in his surrounding environment, which led him to accomplish his book. Also, a context of the story itself is made. In addition, I also made an analysis of the tale already translated to Portuguese of Brazil, by Pedro Soares Maia. Finally, in the last chapter of this project study, a reflection about the translation options and difficulties inherent to the translation of Scieszka’s tale is made.
