Abstract(s)
The main objective of this dissertation project is to study the feasibility of implementing Autonomous Guided Vehicles (AGV) in the mixing department of a tyre manufacturing company, Continental Mabor S.A., with the aim of reducing labour dependency and optimising internal logistics processes. The work focuses on assessing the impact of AGV on operational performance, considering indicators such as the utilisation rate of transporters and mixers. A methodology to address the problem is presented, where the main issues were first identified, such as the overload of transporters and the lack of standardisation in workflow processes. A detailed study of the tasks carried out by the transporters was then conducted, along with a multimoment analysis, which identified the areas where AGV could be most effective. The data collected from the process was used to create a simulation model in FlexSim, representing the current state of the transport processes, which served as the basis for developing the model with AGV implementation. After analysing the results of different scenarios, the simulation reveals that the introduction of AGV ensures greater overall efficiency, improved operator safety conditions, and better standardization of transport flows. However, it also requires the introduction of a greater number of equipment and the restructuring of the mixing layout.
