Abstract(s)
The TV ecosystem is changing, the success of global streaming platforms as Netflix, Amazon or Hulu challenges the traditional television, offering to their subscribers innovative content as well as the control to how they consume it. Since the end of the 90s, with private channels as HBO, TV series have been suffering a process of narrative complexation, that brought a bigger emotional involvement from the audience, as well as practices as binge-watching, popularized by the streaming platforms. This essay begins from this narrative complexation phenomenon as a way to identify the dramatic strategies from the series format, that keep the audience interested through various episodes. Centered on the impact of narrative serialization in terms of action and character, developing questions as pauses in the discourse, the control of the curiosity of the spectator, the cliffhanger, the arcs, the character growth, and others. Afterwards, a methodologic deposition of CRUSHING’s writing is made, a limited series part of the genre dramedy, developed for the streaming era, constituting the practical component of the project. Centering on the process of the genesis of the series and on the production of the elements that form the sale package: script of pilot-episode, treatment of the season and bible of the series.
