The migration phenomenon is marked by conflicts and violence, leading people to leave their countries in search of a new residence that allows for a more dignified life. The complexity of this process challenges previously established concepts, requiring a more comprehensive understanding. Despite changes and developments in Portugal in recent years, the country faces challenges in the reception experience. The "À Mesa" project aims to reflect on the reception and integration experience in Portugal with an Afghan family and the technical team responsible for their reception through a resettlement program. Built on developed relationships of proximity, through the exploration of aromas and dishes, but also through active listening to the lived reality. Guided by a Participatory Action Research methodology, we developed actions from the interaction and active participation of a family composed of ten members and three professionals. The first part involved an analysis of semi-structured interviews conducted with five reception entities. Additionally, the project is primarily methodologically oriented towards fieldwork based on participant observation during the team's weekly interventions. The overall objectives were designed to improve the integration and reception experience of this family and to encourage constructive reflection within the responsible team.
