A sociedade portuguesa, a exemplo de muitas outras, tem sido alvo de alterações contínuas, no sentido de assegurar a todos os cidadãos uma participação o mais completa possível, em todas as dimensões da vida. Se tal nem sempre é tarefa fácil, para os cidadãos com Incapacidade Intelectual esta participação social ainda apresenta dificuldade acrescida e, de modo particular, no que à sexualidade diz respeito.
Um dos aspetos considerados essenciais para o desenvolvimento de uma sexualidade saudável é a Educação Sexual. Todavia, a literatura tem vindo a demonstrar que esta não existe ou não é realizada de forma eficaz junto dos alunos com Incapacidade Intelectual.
Partindo da premissa que a capacitação dos professores é essencial, desenhamos e implementamos uma ação de formação de 12 horas, contemplando cinco sessões de trabalho sobre a Educação Sexual dos alunos com Incapacidade Intelectual, a duas turmas em períodos desfasados. Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar os efeitos da Ação de Formação nos conhecimentos, nas atitudes e na autoeficácia percebida dos docentes de Educação Especial relativamente à Educação Sexual dos alunos com Incapacidade Intelectual. Os dados foram recolhidos junto de 44 formandos, distribuídos aleatoriamente por duas turmas, através de um questionário aplicado antes, imediatamente após e dois meses após a formação se ter desenvolvido. A análise dos dados obtidos indica que a formação foi, no geral, eficaz na alteração das variáveis conhecimentos, atitudes e autoeficácia percebida.
In terms of citizenship awareness and the aim to develop a larger sense of participation in society, regarding all life areas, the Portuguese society, similarly to many others, has been improving over time. These accomplishments are not, usually, very easy to achieve and they seem far more complex to reach by citizens with Intellectual Disability as far as sexuality is concerned. One of the most important issues regarding a healthy sexuality is the Sexuality Education. Nevertheless, literature on this subject has proved that on one hand this kind of education may be considered inexistent because it does not occur and on the other hand it has also shown that whenever it takes place it has not been efficient with Intellectual Disabled students. With the conviction that teacher training is essential, we developed and applied a 12-hour workshop, with 5 sessions included, for two different classes, in two different periods of time. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the workshop, in terms of knowledge, behaviour, and self-efficacy beliefs of the special education teachers, among their Intellectual Disabled students. The data collected is from a group of forty-four special education teachers, who were divided in two groups. A questionnaire was used to evaluate our results. This questionnaire was used before the workshop, immediately after the workshop was concluded and two months afterwards. The analysis of our results shows that the workshop was, globally, successful concerning the improvement of these teachers’ knowledge, behaviour, and self-efficacy beliefs.
