Resumo(s)

The Terminology and Knowledge Engineering Conference (TKE) has been the main event of the Association for Terminology and Knowledge Transfer since its foundation in 1986. Its main objectives are to promote terminology and knowledge transfer by means of research and development in information technology for Languages for Specific Purposes (LSP) communication at national and international level. Over the years, TKE has developed into wider fields of knowledge transfer for special language communication in a multilingual global society. Although initially the TKE Conference was held every three years, since 2008 it has been organized on a biannual basis, due to the rising interest in this multidisciplinary community. The Conference theme of TKE 2012 was “New frontiers in the constructive symbiosis of terminology and knowledge engineering”, and has attracted researchers and practitioners from an international, interdisciplinary scene. This year, TKE received 56 submissions from 23 countries in Europe, Asia and North and South America. These papers were reviewed by a Program Committee consisting of 31 experts in the domain from all over the world. Each submitted paper received three reviews. Out of 56 submissions, 22 were accepted as long papers, and a further 8 were accepted as posters with short presentations. All of them are included in this volume. There has also been a workshop program composed of six workshops on some of the hottest issues in terminology spread over two days, pre and post conference. Organizing an international conference always requires the services of many people. First and foremost, I would like to thank all the members of the Program Committee for producing their meticulous reviews on time. Many thanks also to the Organizing Committee, especially to the members of the Ontology Engineering Group for their invaluable help, and to my colleagues in the Local Committee for pouring all their efforts into preparing a successful conference. And my special gratitude to all the authors who submitted their papers, and to all the participants for contributing to such an interesting and lively conference. I would also like to express my gratitude to the academic authorities for encouraging these types of events at our university, the Universidad Polit´ecnica de Madrid. Last but not least, I thank the sponsors who have provided economic support in these difficult times of financial crisis. Finally, I want to give the warmest welcome to all the delegates and to wish you a most pleasant stay in Madrid. Thank you for coming and for sharing your knowledge with us!!
