Abstract(s)
The present work contributes to the deeper study of the mechanical behaviour of the soils of the Quelo Formation (red soils), characteristic of Luanda (Angola). Lithologically, they are composed of fine to medium grain sandstones and may contain clay and/or silt fraction. This important line of research applies in the geotechnical field, which presupposes the study of the faciologic characteristics of the soil comparing them with its mechanical behavior, the latter obtained through SPT (Standard Penetration Test) laboratory tests. The study will be based on data obtained in several locations in the Luanda urban area, namely in Viana at Km30, in Viana at Zona económica, in Talatona, in Kilamba Kiaxe, at the Catinton neighborhood, in the Nova Vida neighborhood, in the center of Luanda area at 1ª Maio and in international airport. In this context, the realization of this work will involve the collection of samples, which will be subjected to laboratory analysis (grain size, Atterberg limits, natural moisture) to determine the geological and geotechnical parameters as the performance of SPT tests. Finally, it is intended to establish an efficient correlation between the different types of data in order to understand the behaviors of these soils when applied to the construction area, making predictions in a faster way, through an abacus for the behaviors of these soils according to what one wants to implement on‐site.
