Abstract(s)
The study presented here has the main objective to study Emotional Regulation, Mental Health, and Performance in Portuguese workers. Emotional Regulation is an elementary factor for the healthy development of people, being crucial for good Mental Health as well as influencing a better Performance. It’s surprising how little the research on Emotional Regulation, Mental Health, and Performance in the work context is, which is why we believe this current study is pertinent, being the intention to study these three components and their influence in an organizational context in the industrial sector. For this purpose, a quantitative methodology based on a survey by a questionnaire has been implemented to analyze Emotional Regulation (Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale), Mental Health (General Health Questionnaire), and Performance, having been applied to 206 workers and student workers from the most diverse areas of the industrial sector in the north region. The subscales of the instruments are reliable, and the relationships between the subscales with the original instruments are congruent. It was concluded that there is a significant relationship between the variables under study, with Emotional Regulation being predictive of worse Mental Health among workers, as well as predicting worse Performance. The conclusions suggest the need for further studies on this specific topic, as well as intervention strategies in terms of management and Human Resources Development.
