Abstract(s)
conhecimento; 2) a interacção docentes-alunos; 3) a criatividade e a inovação científico-pedagógicas.
Traditional teaching methodologies have been gradually, if not replaced, at least complemented by methodologies grounded in technological innovation. Our challenge today resides in the adequate use of the tools provided by information and communication systems such as the Internet, intranets, and knowledge-specific software. In the area of languages, including adjacent sub-areas, we are confronted by a steady adaptation to this new challenge, whether at resource level or at the level of teacher and student training. The Multimedia Language Center (MLC), at Instituto Superior de Contabilidade e Administração do Porto, is an example of a learning community focused on three fundamental issues: 1) knowledge sharing; 2) teacher-student interaction; 3) scientific and pedagogical creativity and innovation. Rather than simply a center, the MLC is fast becoming a more dynamic learning environment, integrating the virtual and presence-based, science and skills, know what and know how. We aim to give an account of the MLC’s main goals, through a tentative journey into its workings, human and physical structure, and activities. This will enable us to reflect on associated costs and reach some conclusions as to the viability and future of this learning community.
