Abstract(s)
The idea for this work was born due to the pandemic that occurred between 2020 and 2022, where we were forced to stay at home and maintain social distancing. However, in places where isolation prevails, and where there are elderly people who live alone without any kind of regular supervision, where often, the distance and remote locations with difficult access make it difficult for help to arrive, which can sometimes be fatal. Taking this into account, the aim is, therefore, to create a system that allows regular monitoring of the general health status of these elderly people, thus contributing to an improvement in their safety and quality of life. This project therefore offers a solution for daily monitoring of the general health status of these elderly people in these remote and isolated locations. Each elderly person will have a data acquisition module in their home, which will allow them to record their physiological parameters of oxygen saturation, heart rate and body temperature every day. Once the reading is complete, the values will be sent via Wi-Fi or GPRS to a server in the Cloud. The village parish council and/or the nearest fire station will be able to access this server and view the data in real time through the user interface. If an elderly person obtains a critical reading, a pop-up notification will be generated on the screen indicating which user obtained the reading and the respective date and time it was taken. In this way, it would be possible to send an emergency medical unit to the elderly person's address, proactively, thus avoiding complications to their health status. In these cases, one or more of the elderly person's family members can also be notified via email through the system. The alerts generated due to critical readings of each elderly person will be saved in a dedicated database, in order to maintain a history of each elderly person, thus allowing the tracking of any possible pathology. In the end, it was then possible to create a functional system that serves as a proof of concept for a future implementation in a scalable way.
