Abstract(s)
for the Social Sciences (SPSS®
) da IBM®
.
longo do tempo.
rolhas. As rolhas Xpür®
foram avaliadas em stock e em garrafa. As rolhas Naturity®
desempenho.
This dissertation was developed within the scope of the “Dissertação/Estágio” discipline. The curricular internship took place in a business environment, lasted 10 months, from September to June 2022, and took place in one of the industrial units of Amorim Cork, S.A., the Industrial Unit of Lamas. The effect of cork treatment on the technical performance of stoppers was one of the main objectives. Within this theme, several studies were carried out which included the assessment of the characteristics of cork stoppers that may influence their degradation and consequently their performance. The technical performance of cork stoppers submitted to the new TCA removal treatment processes developed by Amorim Cork, S.A., Naturity® and Xpür®, was also assessed. The results were analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS®) software of IBM®. The analysis of the characteristics of cork stoppers that may influence their degradation/disintegration was divided into three parts. The first study consisted in evaluating the physical-mechanical parameters of bottle corks exposed to two temperature conditions over time. During the experiment disintegration of any of the corks occurred, however, breaks were observed in the manual extraction of the corks, which can be seen as an indicator of the evolution of the corks. The second study allowed for the evaluation of several years old corks in a bottle. The physical-mechanical tests do not allow for the prediction of poor performance of the corks, no disintegration behavior. Finally, the impact of some critical cork defects was evaluated, namely clay and bofe. The results obtained seem to show a worse performance of the cork stoppers presenting these defects. The Naturity® and Xpür® treatment processes cause a reduction of humidity in the corks. Xpür® stoppers were evaluated in stock and in a bottle. Naturity® stoppers were only evaluated in bottles. From the results obtained in the parameters analyzed in the Xpür® stopper, it is possible to conclude that the reduction of humidity in the treatment does not have an impact on their technical performance. The Naturity® stoppers, on the other hand, after one year, show an increase in the absorption content and capillary progression of the wine in the samples under study, which is expected due to the time they have remained in the bottle. Based on these results, it is possible to state that the patented Xpür® process removes TCA from technical corks without compromising their performance.
