Abstract(s)
This study aims to investigate the “healing power” of stories, that is, the influence that their consumption and sharing have on the human psyche, and how fiction cinema, structured in mise en abyme, addresses and explores this influence. In this context, a survey of various studies and experiments was conducted in disciplines that examine narrative and fiction, as well as their impact on the human mind. These disciplines include neuroscience, psychotherapy, sleep studies, analytical psychology, social studies, philosophy, and narrative theory. Initially, the method used was a literature review on the mentioned topics, gathering relevant concepts in each area and investigating their relation to narrative creation and interpretation. Subsequently, six cinematic works structured in mise en abyme were analyzed, exploring how the collected concepts justify this narrative structure. The results show that the influence of fiction on the daily life of the human species is quite significant. The study of this influence allows for a deeper understanding of narrative structure and reveals that knowledge of these concepts is a powerful and relevant tool for the creation of fiction cinema.
