Festas religiosas em Vila Nova de Gaia: Património, identidade e turismo cultural

| dc.description.abstract | A presente dissertação tem como objeto de estudo as festas religiosas no concelho de Vila Nova de Gaia, analisando-as enquanto manifestações do património cultural imaterial, espaços de identidade comunitária, de cultura popular e de prática social viva. O estudo enquadra-se numa perspetiva de valorização académica e patrimonial, considerando estas festividades não apenas como tradições locais, mas também como recursos de turismo religioso e cultural. Através de uma abordagem qualitativa, foi realizado um levantamento sistemático das festividades religiosas em Vila Nova de Gaia, complementado pela análise aprofundada de casos representativos. A investigação centrou-se na identificação das principais tipologias de devoção, na análise das estruturas organizativas comunitárias e na observação das dimensões sagrada e profana, relacionando-as com a construção de memória e identidade coletivas. A reflexão integra também a análise das transformações sociais e urbanas que afetam estas manifestações da cultura popular, evidenciando o potencial destas festas enquanto recurso patrimonial sustentável. Os resultados confirmam a importância das festas religiosas de Vila Nova de Gaia como expressão viva da religiosidade popular, fator de coesão social e continuidade cultural. Apesar dos desafios contemporâneos, estas manifestações mantêm vitalidade, adaptando-se às novas realidades sem perderem o seu valor simbólico, identitário e cultural. A dissertação propõe, por fim, recomendações para a salvaguarda e valorização destas práticas, reforçando a sua relevância no contexto académico, cultural, turístico e social, em linha com a reflexão crítica sobre o património imaterial e o papel das festas religiosas no fortalecimento da identidade local. | por |
| dc.description.abstract | This dissertation focuses on the study of religious festivities in the municipality of Vila Nova de Gaia, analyzing them as manifestations of intangible cultural heritage, spaces of community identity, of popular culture, and of living social practice. The research is framed within an academic and heritage perspective, considering these festivities not only as local traditions but also as resources for religious tourism and cultural development. Through a qualitative approach, a systematic survey of the religious festivities in Vila Nova de Gaia was conducted, complemented by an in-depth analysis of representative case studies. The investigation focused on identifying the main devotional typologies, examining the community organizational structures, and observing the sacred and profane dimensions, while relating them to the construction of collective memory and identity. The study also addresses the impact of social and urban transformations on these manifestations of popular culture, as well as their increasing connection with religious and cultural tourism, highlighting the potential of these festivities as sustainable heritage resources. The results confirm the importance of the religious festivities of Vila Nova de Gaia as a living expression of popular religiosity, a factor of social cohesion, and cultural continuity. Despite contemporary challenges, these manifestations remain vital, adapting to new realities without losing their symbolic, identity, and cultural value. Finally, the dissertation proposes recommendations for the safeguarding and enhancement of these practices, reinforcing their relevance within the academic, cultural, touristic, and social context, aligned with a critical reflection on intangible heritage and the role of religious festivals in strengthening local identity. | eng |
