Abstract(s)
The current energetic paradigm is characterized by a heavy dependence on fossil fuels to obtain energy. Apart from the scarcity and high price of these resources, their large-scale use has serious consequences for the environment. The predictable rise of the global energetic needs caused both by the world population rise and the development of the nominated emerging economies implies that alternatives have to be created for a sustainable future where renewable energies play a key role. There are in Portugal privileged conditions for a successful development in the field of renewable energy. Thus whenever possible and advantageous, this type of energies should be used to protect the environment. More than presenting a theoretical study, it is aimed wit this project to provide guidance to the implementation of photovoltaic systems intended for the supply of electric vehicles, enabling this study to be used by ISEP. It were analyzed the steps which as a whole establish an appropriate methodology to perform the dimensioning of the photovoltaic systems. It was carried out the dimensioning and the study of the economic feasibility of photovoltaic cover for ISEP’s car parking with the purpose of charging station for electric vehicles, and concluded that this is a viable and profitable project for ISEP, being an asset for its students and employees and for the sustainability of the planet. The current status and future prospects of the photovoltaic (PV) in Portugal and in the world were also examined by means of statistical data and forecasts.
