Abstract(s)
This dissertation presents a business plan and an economic and financial assessment for the implementation of a new business segment dedicated to providing maintenance services for medical diagnostic devices, focusing on electromedical equipment such as electroencephalography, electromyography and transcranial magnetic stimulation. The case study was conducted at the Mundinter company, which intends to expand its range of services by creating post-warranty maintenance contracts, providing more personalized monitoring of the equipment sold. The paper begins with a review of the literature on hospital maintenance, exploring several types of maintenance, from preventive to corrective, and their application to medical devices. Next, the nature and use of diagnostic equipment is analyzed, highlighting the importance of proper maintenance to ensure optimal operation and longevity of the equipment. The methodology used is based on the Case Study technique, with the development of a business plan that includes a detailed market analysis, identifying potential customers, competitors, strategic partnerships, and the resources needed to implement the new service. The economic and financial plan includes sales projections, cost structure, investment needs and an economic viability analysis using the Discounted Cash Flow method. The results indicate that, under certain market and financial conditions, the new business unit has the potential for economic viability. The sensitivity analysis shows that the project is particularly sensitive to variations in revenue and maintenance costs, underlining the need for rigorous resource management and risk mitigation strategies. It is concluded that the implementation of the maintenance service can not only generate new revenue but also increase customer loyalty, contributing to the company's longterm sustainable growth. This study provides a solid basis for Mundinter's strategic decision-making, proposing recommendations to maximize return on investment, reduce operational risks, and align the new service with the needs of the healthcare market in Portugal.
