Abstract(s)
This research has led to the construction of a catalogue of pieces for percussion duet written by composers from the Iberian Peninsula, during the period of 1970-2015. The leading figures in the creation and dissemination of this new repertoire in Spain and Portugal are discussed. The catalogue stems from a research model in which it was of paramount importance to establish a direct contact with leading figures in the realms of creation and performance, through interviews, surveys and other forms of enquiry. The compilation of this catalogue shows that the percussion duet has received considerable attention by new composers. This might be explained, in turn, by the presence of a new generation of percussionists, which has been able to stand to the challenges of the new music. The fruitful dialogue that performers and composers have kept may explain the boost that musical composition has achieved in this specific domain. It is hoped that this catalogue can assist future performers and composers in their endeavors, as well as serve as a continuous stimulus for the birth of new music for this genre.
