The main goal of this study is to assess the impact of socio-cultural barriers that restrain the creation of new organizations. Data were collected from a longitudinal sample from 1985 to 2006, composed by 323 individual observations from an universe of 569 potential entrepreneurs of a Portuguese National Young Entrepreneurs Association (ANJE) database, having adopted a quantitative methodological approach and using descriptive and inferential statistics techniques. The results allow us to conclude that 69.0% of the surveyed did not create any kind of organization. Of these, 12.6% alleging socio-cultural barriers. It is also possible to conclude that these barriers have a statistically significant impact depending on the intensity of the individual’s involvement, of the project’s development and of the personal reasons for the creation of a new organization.
