Abstract(s)
The digital transformation associated with the huge volume of data that healthcare organizations deal with today is based on transforming this complex knowledge-driven industry to turn data into knowledge. Technology is changing the way we live our lives almost every day and in a variety of different ways. One of these transformations is occurring in healthcare. The healthcare industry requires comprehensive maturity models that help identify priorities for implementing a business intelligence (BI) solution. These solutions are used in various industries to gain insight into financial and operational data to make more informed decisions for the ultimate goal of achieving efficiency and effectiveness. Clinical organizations have been using Business Intelligence to store data in a centralized data warehouse, keep patient data secure, accurate and complete analysis, and share reports across departments for a modern and integrated approach to healthcare. This dissertation aims to assess the maturity, in terms of Business Intelligence, of Portuguese hospital organizations. To be able to answer the main research question, this dissertation was based on two main sources of data collection. The first was an exhaustive literature review focusing on Business Intelligence and Maturity Models. The second was an online questionnaire sent to several Portuguese hospitals that aimed to assess their level of maturity. Due to the fact that we had few answers for the development of this study, it was not possible to conclude much about Portuguese hospitals as a whole. However, with the answers obtained we were able to conclude that regardless of maturity level, the hospitals studied use Business Intelligence as a crucial factor for their management.
