Abstract(s)
This dissertation addresses the relationship between music and theatre in the context of musical theatre, analysing and exploring the musical and scenic elements that make up this interdisciplinary relationship. As part of this research, I propose to establish ideas for my personal practice, considering the different approaches of composers and their respective works, such as Mauricio Kagel, John Cage, and Heiner Goebbels. During the research, three theoretical concepts by Michel Chion will be addressed – “empathy”, “anempathy” and “abstraction” – providing a better understanding of the dynamics and perceptions between the artistic elements involved: sound, gesture, light, text, etc. The work will culminate in the creation of an original musical theatre piece that puts the study material into practice.
