Introduction and company’s background
This work focuses in one of the most decisive moments of a small software enterprise - its
expansion to foreign markets - and presents the action plan for the implementation of
specific policies, processes and tools, mainly in the Sales and Marketing teams, where the
company would grow more significantly in terms of the number of employees.
The company is innovative and technology-based. It is specialised in the development and
commercialisation of software solutions for complex combinatorial problems, using
problem-solving techniques and methods from the Operational Research discipline.
Despite the vast research on the problems related to Operational Research, these are not
transferred to commercial applications, thus not contributing to the direct benefit and
increased productivity and efficiency of organisations.
The results of studies and projects carried out in Operational Research are of undeniable
interest and utility. The problems addressed are of complex resolution, since they usually
present numerous input variables and require a considerable interaction between these
variables to obtain optimal solutions. Good examples for complex combinatorial problems
in this area are project planning, allocation or assignment problems, routing, production
planning, personnel staffing, timetabling, etc.[...]
