Esta Dissertação em Património, Artes e Turismo Cultural, visa relacionar o Património
Industrial e as memórias do porto de Leixões com as grandes obras marítimas
associadas à evolução do tráfego marítimo, na primeira metade do século XX.
O desenvolvimento portuário está associado a variadíssimos fatores históricos,
políticos e económicos, que de certa forma interferiram diretamente com o
desenvolvimento e crescimento dos portos em Portugal.
Olhando para Leixões, abordaremos neste trabalho um segmento histórico que
permitirá perceber variados acontecimentos ao longo da primeira metade do século
XX. Um porto entre guerras, um porto integrado num conceito social e económico
controverso e de elevadas dificuldades, um porto na transição da Monarquia para a
República liberal e dita democrática, um porto inserido na primeira Grande Guerra, um
porto que estagna o seu desenvolvimento estrutural, económico e social derivado das
consequências da guerra, um porto que se insere num país falido, a transição de
regime político, numa primeira fase ditadura militar e posteriormente política, um
porto inserido na segunda guerra mundial.
Um porto comercial?
Apesar de todas as contrariedades, o porto de Leixões não deixou de ser uma força da
natureza e uma força humana, onde, com muito sacrifício e vontade, se foi
construindo uma infraestrutura portuária que ao longo das décadas se tornou uma
referência Nacional e Internacional. O meu trabalho resume uma história, o
Património Industrial, as memórias do porto de Leixões, as grandes obras marítimas e
a evolução do tráfego marítimo.

Augusto Cury This dissertation in Heritage, Arts and Cultural Tourism, aims to establish a relationship between the Industrial Heritage and the memories of the port of Leixões and the major maritime works associated with the development of maritime traffic in the first half of the 20th century. The port development is associated with numerous economic, political and historical factors that somehow interfered directly with the development and growth of ports in Portugal. This work will be focused on Leixões and on ahistorical segment that will allow us to understand various events over the first half of the 20th century ad. A port between wars, a port as part of a controversial and difficult social and economic concept, a port in the transition from a monarchy to a republic said democratic and liberal, a port in World War I, a port with structural development stagnated as consequence of the social war, a port in a bankrupted country, the transition of political regime, first a military dictatorship and later a political one, a port in World War II A commercial port? Despite all the setbacks, the port of Leixões endure to be a force of nature and a human force, which, with a lot of sacrifice and desire built a port infrastructure which over the decades has become a national and international reference. My work summarizes a history, Industrial heritage, memories of the port of Leixões, the great works and the development of maritime traffic.
