Abstract(s)
This research, The Poetics of Balance: The Kum Nye method in Artistic Creation, deals with the analysis of the results of the testing and implementation of Kum Nye method in actors’ direction in three phases of an experiment, resulting in three distinct productions of "The Trojan Hecuba", created from the Greek tragedy "The Trojan Women" by Euripides. Experimentation and systematization of this method with professional actors, students and amateurs coming from different areas, different schools and different theater doings, starts in 2013, in the first and second year of the master’s degree, with two stages, in Porto-Portugal . The following year, the analysis and the construction of the method are studied and applied in another artistic experiment with professional actors, in Recife, Brazil. Kum Nye's research for, and in, the scenic creation is a structured work and based on the technical competences at body, voice, mind, energy and performance level, that develops, as dramatic experiments, through specific exercises of Kum Nye, intended for the actor to expand his reflexive attitude while discovering the energy centers of the theatrical experience starting from the balance. Kum Nye’s practice requires honesty and acceptance, patience and discipline, and, mainly, availability to the unknown, letting the trainee realize how, and to what extent, this method can improve, in a subtle way, a versatile actors’ performance. In conclusion, in this research, we want to consolidate information and knowledge, training to work with Kum Nye with a wide range of actors, where the main objective is to structure a methodology, which aims to be applied and deployed both in the direction of actors as in own artistic creation. While intending to consolidate information and knowledge, Kum Nye is tried with a varied range of actors, having as main goal the structuring of a methodology, which intends to be applied and spread both in actors' direction and in artistic creation itself.
