Abstract(s)
This research project explores Bel Canto, focusing on the technical and stylistic demands required to perform it, as well as the choice of repertoire that best suits my vocal characteristics. Prioritizing portuguese composers, the research began with Marcos Portugal and the aria Per amar abbiamo il core, whose connection was perceived through similarities with Mozart, a composer of personal preference. The idea arose after an ESMAE performance at the São João Theatre and led to the repertoire being expanded to include works by Mozart, Donizetti and Bellini. The work is structured in several chapters: a historical introduction to opera and Bel Canto; the research methodology; an analysis of the characters in the chosen arias, contextualizing the plot and the technical and emotional requirements; and finally, a performative analysis that relates the context of the operas, the profile of the characters and the interpretations of renowned artists such as Diana Damrau, Anna Netrebko and Mariella Devia, culminating in reflections of my own interpretative ideas. The conclusions emphasize that the detailed study of the historical context, the psychological profile of the characters and the observation of international performances contributes to a significant improvement in the interpretative and technical quality.
