dc.description.abstractOver the last decades, sustainability has emerged as a global concept. Every sector of activity has been concerned about the future of our lives and future generations, so we need to adopt measures in our consumption practices. It has been drawing the attention of different sectors of activity, which is also the case of the textile industry, which is one of the most polluting industries in the world. For this reason, textile companies have been concerned about the importance of adopting initiatives to minimise their environmental impact. In this context, due to the need for a better understanding about sustainable practices, this research aims to develop a sustainability assessment model for the textile industry integrating environmental, social, and economic dimensions. The work resorts to a quantitative methodology based on a case study to investigate the strategies adopted by Portuguese textile companies in response to environmental challenges. A structured questionnaire was designed and used as a sample of Portuguese companies to support the empirical component of this study. The findings indicate that although companies have begun implementing sustainable practices in their supply chains to mitigate environmental impacts, substantial progress is still required to achieve the targeted levels of sustainability.eng
