Esta tese constitui um estudo aprofundado sobre as relações entre música e pintura no processo composicional. Sob a perspetiva da correspondência entre música e pintura são revistas várias abordagens, incluindo trabalhos do autor. Também são discutidas perspetivas opostas, de divergências entre música e pintura. É proposto um esquema de enquadramento das abordagens referidas por tipos de relações, entre música e pintura, e um desses tipos é aprofundado, produzindo uma proposta de técnica composicional e um modelo para a composição de música e pintura. Por fim, são apresentados um software, uma obra musical, e uma pintura.
This thesis is a detailed study of the relationship between music and painting in the compositional process. Under the perspective of the correspondence between music and painting various approaches are reviewed, including some of the author’s works. Opposing perspectives are also discussed, focusing on the divergences between music and painting. I propose a conceptual framework for such approaches. This framework contemplates different types of relations between music and painting; one of these is developed more in depth, producing a compositional technique and a conceptual model for the composition of music and painting. Finally, a software, a musical piece, and a painting are presented.
