Abstract(s)
International organizations have been dedicating for some years special attention to the transition from school to active life of disabled young people. The transition from school to adult life is not always successful. Instead of finding support from school, family, community and services, these young people often experience the lack of cooperation by the system which should provide support to make the disabled prone to successful transitions so as to become members of an adult community. The objective of this work is to contribute to the visibility of the issue concerning the transition to active life of five young people who left school for more than two years, getting to know who they are, where they are, what they do in their daily life and what sort of opportunities were given in order to become self sufficient and contribute to financial stability and civic community. Then, through the promotion of a conversation with relevant members of the community, representing services and institutions, we discussed different perspectives and ideas, in order to define a plan of action and provide a set of services and supports that will enable these young to achieve their goals after school.
