| dc.description.abstract | The present work, developed within the scope of the Curricular Unit "Dissertation/Internship", aims to carry out the economic assessment of floating offshore wind energy projects, within the context of the energy transition. An overview of offshore wind energy at the European level is provided, including market developments, the policy context, the main technological solutions, and the cost components: Development Expenditure (DEVEX), Capital Expenditure (CAPEX), Operational Expenditure (OPEX), and Decommissioning Costs (DECOM). The methodology for calculating the Levelised Cost of Energy (LCOE) is based on a Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) approach and was implemented in Microsoft Excel. The model integrates the main techno-economic components of the project, particularly the CAPEX and OPEX costs, Annual Energy Production (AEP), and financial parameters. The methodology is parametric in nature, enabling a sensitivity analysis of the isolated impact of key variables, such as distance to shore, water depth, and installed capacity, thus constituting a tool to support the economic assessment of offshore wind projects. Its application to different scenarios showed that distance to shore is the main driver of LCOE increases, potentially causing variations of more than 40 €/MWh, while water depth has a moderate impact. On the other hand, increasing installed capacity allows for a reduction in LCOE of approximately 15 to 17 €/MWh, reflecting the effect of economies of scale. The results show that floating offshore wind energy projects currently have costs above market prices, highlighting the need for support mechanisms and technological advancement to ensure their economic viability. This work contributes to the understanding of the main factors influencing the cost of offshore wind energy and supports decision-making in project planning and development within the context of the energy transition. | eng |
