Quando o meu avô regressou da emigração, trouxe com ele o álbum de fotografias da família, vazio. Do Rio de Janeiro volta ao norte de Portugal: nasce a família e compõe-se as páginas. O objecto, central à fotografia doméstica, é a projecção da própria imagem do núcleo afectivo. Através da linguagem universal e dos rituais que o caracterizam, o álbum fotográfico da Família Martins é um retroceder à própria imagem individual e a uma reflexão acerca dos processos de memória a que qualquer arquivo é sujeito. Da esfera privada para o espaço público, “Álbum” propõe uma nova leitura do género vernacular, equiparando-o ao discurso fotográfico oficial.
When my grandfather returned from emigration, brought with him the family photo album, empty. From Rio de Janeiro comes back to northern Portugal: the family is born and the pages composed. The object, central to the domestic photography, is the projection of the affective core self image. Through the universal language and rituals that characterize it, the Family Martins photo album is a recede to the self-image and a personal reflection on the processes of memory to which any archive file is subjected. From the private sphere to the public space, "Album" purposes a new reading of the vernacular gender, equating it to the official photographic discourse.
