| dc.description.abstract | Dancehall, um ecossistema complexo que dá vida à expressão de um povo, um tesouro que encerra a mensagem do povo Jamaicano e a sua vivência desde a era colonial, o facto de ter sido colonizada por dois países diferentes: Espanha (1494-1655), Inglaterra (1655-1900), faz com que guarde em si também comportamentos e expressões trazidas pelos países colonizadores e ainda expressões comportamentais que são consequência destes anos de colonização e da procura pela liberdade, através de rebeliões constantes, fazendo com que as diversas expressões musicais não só guardem mensagens de libertação pessoal e coletiva, mas também o descontentamento, luta, dificuldade, felicidade, sonhos e ambições de um povo encarcerado. As mulheres associadas a práticas de danças tradicionais ligadas à fertilidade, ou à falta dela, ao voodoo caribenho e hoje ao universo feminino do Dancehall têm vindo a lutar pelo seu espaço a nível musical e dançado. Este trabalho foca o papel da Mulher no Dancehall desmistificando a ideia de libertação sexual atribuída à vertente feminina do mesmo, quando analisamos única e exclusivamente o seu movimento. Assim através do mestrado em Artes Cénicas, tenho a oportunidade de analisar 4 criadoras femininas, consideradas embaixadoras do estilo em todo o mundo, entender a sua visão, a evolução do estilo na atualidade, o seu movimento, cruzando-o sempre com a sua evolução e possível memória cultural que muito provavelmente impacta diretamente no estilo. Recolher informação, e alertar consciências para problemáticas atuais que afetam as mulheres na Jamaica é também um objetivo desta dissertação. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | Dancehall, a complex ecosystem that gives life to the expression of a group of people, a treasure that contains the message of the Jamaican people and their experience since the colonial era. The fact that it was colonized by two different countries: Spain (1494-1655) and England (1655-1900), makes it also retain in itself behaviors and expressions brought by the colonizing countries as well as behavioral expressions that are a consequence of those years of colonization. The search for freedom, through constant rebellions, made the various musical expressions not only keep messages of personal and collective liberation, but also discontent, struggle, difficulty, happiness, dreams and ambitions of incarcerated people. Women, often associated with traditional dance practices linked to fertility, or lack thereof, to Caribbean voodoo and nowadays, to the female universe of Dancehall, have been fighting for their domain in terms of music and dance. This document seeks to focus on the role of women in dancehall, demystifying the idea of sexual liberation attributed to the female side of Dancehall, when we analyze its movement exclusively. Thus, through the Masters in Performing Arts, I have the opportunity to study and analyze 4 female creators, considered ambassadors of the style worldwide, understand their vision, the evolution of style, as well as their movement always crossing it with its evolution and possible cultural memory that possibly could have a direct impact on it. Additionally, gathering information and raising awareness to current issues affecting women in Jamaica is another goal for this dissertation. | pt_PT |
