Simulation proves to be very useful in various contexts, namely in decision-making, so that all decisions are better informed and there is less risk, through knowledge of the limitations and basic principles of simulation. The main objective of this thesis was to develop an agent-based model in order to simulate the evacuation of the Medical Day Hospital of Hospital de São Sebastião, located in the city of Santa Maria da Feira. After redesigning the floor plan of the hospital’s former canteen, where the Medical Day Hospital facilities are currently located, all occupant profiles, behaviors, and divisions necessary to carry out the model were created. The results of the 6 simulated scenarios showed that a more organized evacuation is beneficial for the evacuation time per occupant. The use of alternative emergency exits has a very significant and positive impact on evacuation time.
