Abstract(s)
The problems of children with special needs whose profile of functionality shows severe and permanent incapacities and disabilities justifies the necessity of doing a special and individual curriculum and eventual individual approval / transition plans. This fact has motivated several different reflections and surveys leading to a better awareness of these children’s specificities/characteristics, and demanding an appropriate performance from the schools, teachers and other participants of the educational process trying to answer to all their needs. Organizing scientific experimental and functional activities, involving alcoholic and milk fermentation is the main aim of the present report presenting the following objectives: Giving a contribute to the teaching of sciences through experimental work within the children with special needs and with the special and individual curriculums; about aspects related to food and fermentation; developing skills in students with special needs and special individual curriculums by giving a contribute to an active life and professional future. This work involved a group of seven children with special needs and individual curriculums aged between twelve and seventeen that attended the 6th, 7th and 9th grades of Basic Education. Students were in a classroom that was appropriated to the development of specific skills defined in their individual curriculums and in one of the students’ transition plan. They were observed and their behaviors were registered in grills of data that were later analyzed with notes added by the participant observer. Data analysis points out to the possibility of including experimental work in individual curriculums of students with special needs and eventually with individual transition plans. This could contribute to the consecution of some of the objectives defined in legal documents that fit the specificity of the educational needs of these students, and that legitimize reflexive and active attitudes.
